The Lava SUB-8 delivers a clear, crisp and surprisingly powerful punch when
you take its small size into account. At 15" x 11.25" x 14.5", its small
footprint allows for an easy placement even in small environments. The SUB-8
cabinet small enough for dens, bedrooms or other small spaces, but is still big
enough to move some serious air. The SUB-8 is the answer to a small sub with big
sound! Get wall-shaking low-end kick at a price that is unheard of for a powered
subwoofer in this price class.
The Lava SUB-8 is a front-firing, front-ported powerhouse featuring an 8 inch
cellulose composite woofer. We don't use cheap paper cardboard woofers. This is
the real deal and part of why Lava subwoofers outperform the competition.
The Lava SUB-8 is powered by a 100 watt internal amplifier that provides home
theater and stereo bass you can feel.
Lava SUB-8 powered subwoofer extends the low frequency response of the system
below 40Hz, with a low pass frequency response in the range of 37-150 Hz (+/-3
dB) and a 60 - 180 Hz continuously variable low pass crossover. In a surround
sound system the SUB-8 provides stunning reproduction of the LFE (low frequency
effects) channel in the range of 20-380 Hz (+/-3dB). The SUB-8 is also
incredibly sensitive testing a 130mV at 100W.
The SUB-8 provides both line level RCA, speaker level inputs and comes in a
black, lightly textured cabinet. The cabinets look as great as they sound.
Enclosures are constructed of high-quality MDF material and a seamless black PVC
finish that minimizes resonance and looks great. The SUB-8 comes with an MDF
grill frame covered with black speaker cloth. If you don't find the SUB-8 to be
the best home subwoofer of its size for the price, just send it back within the

excellent little subs for home theater system

I ordered a pair (2) of the Lava 8" 100 watt subs to replace a pair of Infinity 10" 300 watt subs that had fried their circuit boards after only 3 years. I chose the Lava subs after reading positive comments about them on the AVS online forums; they were the only subs that met all my criteria: US owned company, price point, support, build and audio quality. I was concerned that at only 100 watts, they would not produce enough low-end for my home theatre system. That turned out to be a non-issue; the pair of them, driven off the subwoofer outputs of my Yamaha receiver, produce ample low end for movies and music and actually (musically) sound better in some respects that the Infinity's did (at twice the wattage). That said, they don't do extreme low frequencies like the Infinity's, the bone jarring, vibrate the glass off the coffee table sort, but they do definitely kick and perfectly compliment the other 5 speakers (still Infinity) in my home theatre audio set-up. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the Lava's, kind of wish I had gone for the 10" version, but content with what these provide nonetheless. And I bet they will last a lot longer than 3 years :)
