Large safe, small price

I recently purchased this safe so my wife and I could safely keep items away from our precocious child. This safe was an amazingly low price of $99. It arrived promptly via free "Prime" two day shipping and in pristine condition. After about 15 minutes of examination, battery installation and securing the shelf screws which apparently worked their way loose in transit I was ready to secure our belongings. This safe is very well constructed. The safe is made from 1/8th or.125 inch metal plate and very sturdy. I comes with four generic AA batteries for the electronic keypad. It has two "emergency" keys in the event the batteries fail. As indicated in the description this safe is 1.8 cubic feet which roughly translates to about 20 cans of soda or whatever you plan on keeping in it.I have a few minor comments the first being the shelf is not welded but rather fastened by the afore mentioned screws and the shelf wobbles ever so slightly. The second was the quality of the foam pads included and attached to the door to deaden the sound of the door closing. They are virtually worthless and I immediately replaced them with some better, thicker ones from the local home garden center. Finally, I didn't care for how loud the key pad beeps when you enter the code. I wish there was some user method of programming the pad to beep in a lower tone or not at all.I would recommend keeping a flashlight in the safe or keep the safe in an area that has access to some external light source because the safe itself is very dark and depending on where you keep it you will have a difficult time seeing what's in there.It will perform its function of keeping third parties grubby mitts off your property for the majority of users. This safe is not fire rated nor is it theft proof. If you want or need maximum security and fire protection look elsewhere.

Disappointing and Cheap

I purchased this safe after checking reviews. I am really surprised not to see more complaints about how cheaply made this safe is. It arrived quickly and I was actually impressed by the size of the safe for the price, but that was the extent of it. I opened the box, which I (being a small woman) could lift on my own, so the safe is easily picked up and taken. If you are looking for heavy duty, look elsewhere. Secondly, it just seemed cheaply made and yes, just like everything else, made in China. I tried several times to get the door open and couldn't. Finally laid it on one side and got the door open with the key, but realized the cheaply made door would not open sitting up-right, unless lifted and tweaked. Just with opening and closing the door a couple times to check it out, the paint started to rub off where it was hitting the edges. I can see how it easily was bent and just poorly put together. I order on Amazon probably bi-weekly and this one of of my first major returns.I was however happy with Amazon's easy return system and UPS came back to get the huge box the next day.I would NOT recommend this safe. Furthermore, it came up when I had searched for "fire proof", which I now realize, this is not at all.

Great safe, very bad packaging

The safe is everything as described, and I think it works very well. However, the internal packaging was horrible. The box in which the safe came was very sturdy, and the packaging outside the safe was installed in an appropriate manner. However, the internal components of the safe were allowed to be shipped without any protection. It is as if the manufacturer decided that because the items were inside the safe that they did not need to be packed correctly. When I opened the safe, the shelf, batteries, battery compartment, and screws were thrown around. Items were damaged, but I as able to fix them. I had to throw out the batteries because there were gashes in them from being tossed around so violently. Until the manufacturer decides to improve the packaging, the buyer needs to be careful.
