This is a well made item. The makers say it is good for cutting meat and cheese and I'm sure it would work. In fact I think it could do most kitchen tasks. It has a nice stainless steel blade. I do like the blade.The handle is _huge_ and that says a lot all by itself. The extraordinary size of the handle makes this knife awkward to do much of anything with. It should never be immersed in water or allowed to get wet because the handle is in large part made of raw wood.At the present time I'm unable to see any situation in which this knife would be my first choice to do anything.The huge size of the handle and the shear length might fool some people into thinking they can use this as some sort of machete. I suspect they will quickly do major damage if they try to do that.If you want to you could hang this on a hook, take it down and use it, then wipe the blade and hang it back up out of reach of the rug rats. With an occasional sharpening it would prove effective as a kitchen knife, but the huge size of the handle is going to cause most people not to want to go that way. You need to understand that the handle is round and fat and two or more times as long as most knives with a blade this size.
