The Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR DX ED Zoom-Nikkor Lens is a compact 5.5x zoom lens for DX-format D-SLR cameras. Its equivalent focal length in FX-format is 82.5-450mm. This lens is an excellent choice for travel, landscapes, portraits, and distant subjects. The lens focuses to 4.6' at every focal length - this versatility ensures stunning close-up shots of subjects near and far.
The VR II image stabilization allows you to handhold the your camera at up to 4 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper still images and stable video capture. This is Truely VR lense.

I am really happy with this lense. After review an all other lense I purchased this lense. This is newely introduced by Nikon. night photography aslo work very fine. This is Truely VR lense.Its take Crystal and sharp and right digital color immage at 300mm as well.Only issue that, its little bit heavy due to its base build by metal which is good.

Nikon 55-300mm kit

I ordered a Nikon 55-300mm VR lens kit from Amazon sold by Cameta Camera. I got the kit with a filter, lens hood and pouch, lens cap keeper and lens cleaning kit for less then just the lens alone at other dealers. I recieved it in about 4 days and I am very pleased with the purchase. The lens takes great photos, it's very sharp although not the fastest focusing, it's lighter then I'd expected it to be and the VR works great. I took pictures at 300mm as slow as 1/80 second and had totally sharp pictures. I didn't try it any slower then that. Distortion looks well controlled also. Anyone looking for a cheap (price) long lens this isn't a bad choice at all. It has a metal lens mount and comes with a 5 year Nikon warranty. For shooting sports the 70-300 is faster to focus but is heavier and more expensive but I'd buy this lens all over again if I had to. Amazon is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to shop.

I like the feel of this lens and it's extra zoom compare to 55-200mm nikkor lens which feel like cheaply made, It is not heavy as the 70-300mm lense but it is not as fast as the 70-300mm either. If you planning to go FX camera then 70-300mm is the one for but If you have dx and don't plan to go fx then either 55-300mm is great.. If you are in budget then 55-200mm is great too since its lighter hince feel like cheaply made for me but the picture quality is the same as 55-300mm. The only draw back for this 55-300mm is once you get to about 300mm, the zoom seems sticky other than that, it is a great lens...
