Great weight set at a great price

This product doesn't deserve the low rating people have given it - just READ the reviews! People are giving it terrible reviews for shipping damage! Geeze, I want to see ratings of what I'm buying, not about how the box was torn so it was missing parts.. this is a weight set, it's heavy, do you think the UPS guy is going to have a fun time loading and unloading it? He has hundreds of other boxes to deliver, he can't spend an hour making sure your box arrives in one piece. Sorry but that's the reality.I was going to buy this set from Amazon but because it's so heavy and I dont want missing pieces, I checked around and it turns out Academy has this set for 79 dollars. Saved myself a lot of money by doing simple price comparison. Also, since I bought it at a retail store, I was able to make sure everything was in the box - no problems with shipping when you buy it and pick it up yourself.To those curious about the weights: the dumbells weigh 4lb each, assorted free weights total 85lb, and the barbell weighs 17lb. Comes to 110lb. Quality wise, everything slides in/screws on just fine. They're heavy, they're weights, you can lift them and sit them down.The barbell can handle 200lb according to the manufacturer, so feel free to buy eight 25lb 1" hole weights and slide them on! For people like me who are lifting weights to tone up but dont want to be a body builder, 200lb is a LOT of weight. I doubt I'll make it to 200lb ever. But, it's nice to know this set can handle that amount of weight, as it means I don't have to buy another bar, I can just buy more weights if I want to go beyond ~100lb. Maybe I'll update this review in a few months or a year from now if I actually stick to it that long.

I've seen a lot of misguided criticism for the CAP weight set (for this weight and others) and I'm not sure why. It is a standard (not Olympic) size weight set. There is an initial smell when the boxes are first opened that goes away, which is common for metal weight sets. The weights are metal and as described. It has threaded collars, not clip-ons. What this means is that the weight set has small holes and a thinner bar/pipe than Olympic sized weights. Threaded collars mean that in order to put the weights on you have to unscrew the collars as opposed to pressing a clip and removing them. I prefer threaded as it is safer because the weights can't slide off which sometimes happens with the clips. All of this is mentioned in the product detail. I had no problems with shipping but ordered through an Amazon merchant (Wayfair) and not directly through Amazon.I bought them for 135 which is relatively cheap.I've had no problems with the grips. I'm very happy with the quality of the product.

This is a very good weight set. The long bar is very well textured. The inside stops being a permanent part of the machining. I received six spin on locks. Threading is solid on all items. The weights aren't just painted grey. They're coated in a very cool looking protective way. One box contained the long bar. The other contained all other items. Amazon fulfilled,delivered quickly. Buy this set.
