By Mike Lin
Thumbs up. I got a folding bike because my last bike got stolen outside my workplace. Now I fold my bike and put it under my desk. At about 24" tall folded, it fits just fine. I chose this model because there are a lot of hills on my commute. This was the least expensive model I found that offers 7 gears. Here are some things that I bug me, but not enough to make me pay more for a commuter bike:1) It's not terribly easy to carry because it's as heavy as my full size bike (27.6 lbs) and doesn't have a clear handle to carry it from -- I carry it by the seat -- which makes it hard to not get dirty by rubbing against some part of the bike.2) The ride is slightly bumpy because the wheels are small and the seat is positioned very close to the rear wheel -- both totally expected for a folding bike.3) Some of Dahon's models have a chain protector that stop your pants from getting caught on the chain. This one doesn't. My right pant leg does occasionally get caught in the chain if I don't tie it back.My daily commute is 5 miles round-trip with some moderate hills and no public transportation, so I don't have to fold and carry it often. For what I use it for, I'm really happy with it. The build quality seems OK for the price point.

By Mike B
Bottom Line Upfront: I really like this bike. It is a versatile bike that excels as a commuter, but is capable of handling light touring duties also. It is nicely equipped (rack and SKS fenders)and has a nice range of gears to tackle most terrain. The 20" wheels are excellent size and get to speed quickly. The 34"-92" gear range will handle lightly loaded panniers (up to 15-20 lbs)without too much issue. The Speedy 7's strength lies in mixed mode transportation. Folds tight enough to put in the trunk of your car, take on a train or pack in a suitcase for air travel.I am 6'2" -210 lbs so I am close to the limit on the seat post. If you are taller than me you may want to look into the possibility of using a telescopic seat post (as well as a test ride prior to purchase). To extend my reach I use the Aber Hallo Stem, this has provided me a custom fit that is perfect for me. If you plan on riding more than 10 miles a shot, I recommend looking into bar ends. I am using the Ergon GC2's and provide enough variation in hand position that I can easily ride comfortable for 30 plus miles. NOTE: The mods do have a modest impact on the fold, but certainly worth keeping for me.This bike is a blast to ride and has now become my primary bike over my Kona Dew Drop. The 4130 ChroMo frame and 1.75" tires handle even the most battered roads with ease while the SRAM/ Neos group shift cleanly and precisely.I like this bike so much I bought one for my wife (beautiful Tangerine color) and, while at first skeptical ("the wheels are so small"), she now uses it a her primary commuter also.If your budget keeps you in the $500 range and your looking into folders I highly recommend you give the D7 your consideration.Mike
