I like this pack, and it's my daily pack but...There is always room for improvement and feedback. I bought this pack based on one `like' it I seen on deployment. When I ordered mine I thought I was getting the exact same pack...but no! Camelbak had made some mid production changes to the pack, and when I bought mine off Amazon the pictures and description did not account for changes. (Camelbak website did not address changes either)There were two big differences: First, Camelbak removed the Molle off the lower side pockets; the pockets and zippers likely could not support excessive hanging weight but the extra attach points was something I looked forward to. Second, the top stash pocket had a soft protective lining on the inside. I thought this was a perfect addition for sunglasses, camera or anything with optic lenses; the one I received has no lining. It is a great stash pocket but has no protective feature.Pros: The pack is very spacious with padding in all the right places for comfort. The removable hip belt is perfect when wearing web gear. Organization is superb. The lower side pockets provide a ton of space, big enough for extra clips when on duty or stashing a camcorder (and case) for traveling. Internal mesh organizer pockets are very handy...now that I'm home one of these mesh pockets doubles as diaper bag for my daughter when we are out and about. External pocket design does not impede interior space. I added a Blackhawk large utility pouch to the large pocket on the front (molle) and the pack supports it perfectly.Camelbak Feedback: 1.) The top/side small pockets have a one way zipper, and they are a pain to get it and out of (the pockets themselves are very handy). 2.) There are no d-ring attach points on the body of the pack. Molle works for d-rings, but I'd prefer designated strengthened attach points. 3.) The shoulder harness is comfortable but the pack is screaming for the Futura Harness to provide more load options. 4.) Put the lining back in the top stash pocket. 5.) Many manufactures are now putting pockets on the waist belt which are very useful...try it. Finally...be more consistent with design, and when changes are made, make sure buyers are aware with detailed descriptions. (One last note: it would be great if camelbak made/provided pouches that are designed for their Molle systems)Amazon Feedback: Get on board with Camelbak military products. Pricing by sellers is horribly inconsistent. I'd be curious to know how many orders from Amazon go to the FOL (forward operating location(s)) annually...I would bet by the number of Amazon packages I see on deployment, that Amazon is the #1 vendor to deployed forces (thank you for your support). Conclusion: The pack is very versatile and can be configured to meet several needs. I have many packs and this one is my favorite, but it has room for improvement.

I own two of the older (i.e. good) Camelbak BFM packs and they're awesome... rugged, durable, bomb proof. I just ordered a third and thought I received a knock-off imitation in the mail. Upon closer inspection, it is indeed a genuine Camelbak pack, but they've obviously gone the way of so many other manufacturers and begun to cut corners on production over profit. I spoke with Camelbak directly and they confirmed what I thought. They've changed the design and have begun using cheaper thinner fabric, removed the MOLLE webbing from the outer pockets, removed the lining in the goggles pocket, and the overall construction seems sloppy and cheap. Too bad folks, another great product (and company) bites the dust. In my experience, not too many manufacturers turn around and go the other way by stepping up quality, materials, and features. This one's gone.

I'm a Army Reservist living in South Korea and I wanted something to use as a bug out bag in case things went bad with North Korea, or any other emergency for that matter so I was on the market for a big well made backpack. I had some requirements though that had to met which follows:1. It had to have good organization.2. I preferred something made in USA.3. It had to be big 2500cubic inches/45Liter + range.4. It had to be durable and from a reputable company. The Camelbak meets these requirement. It has many pockets for organization, and the sewn on exterior pouches save money from having to buy extra pouches. It's "assembled in America with foreign and domestic components." So it's not 100% American but the Cordura nylon, and ITW buckles are American. Amazon says it's cargo size is about 2900cubic inches but it's really over 3100 if you include the exterior pouches. The BFM is well made, comfortable to use. The only pack I have used that is better in terms of craftsmanship, and durability would be Spec Ops THE Pack. It uses 1000D Cordura, metal D Rings, and has the straps running through the backpack. But it's also a lot smaller. It and the Camelbak are also very comfortable to carry. The BFM is a great pack that I'm glad to have it. I eventually switched to using the Spec Ops THE Pack as my bug out bag, and use the BFM for my range bag, travel bag, and camping bag. The BFM's main cargo area is big enough that it can hold my IBA body Armor (with plates), ACH helmet, knee, and elbow pads. That saves me a lot of hassle when I have to transport my battle rattle to training. That kit is over 35 pounds, and it rides comfortably on my back. There are some things I would like to see improved though. First I wish it had a higher denier because the 500D Cordura is strong, but it can't keep it's form. For example when opening the clamshell, the BFM's main area, the pack literally just flops down. This is annoying because say I have some gloves, flashlight, and night vision equipment in the top front pocket. When you open the main area the nylon folds on itself like a T-shirt or something. So I have to spend time straightening the front portion out so I can find my gear. The 1000D Spec Ops, and Maxpedition do a good job of keeping their form. On the plus side the 500D does make packing the BFM easy.
